As Nigeria celebrates its 17th Democracy Day, former governor of Benue state, Dr. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, on Sunday greeted Benue people just as he assured them of a better time.

Speaking in a congratulatory message he personally signed, Dr. Suswam said: “My dear people of Benue State, we felicitate with you at this auspicious occasion of the 17TH Democracy Day Anniversary, May 29th, 2016.

“Democracy Day has come to be marked amongst us in remembrance of the return to popular civilian mode of government on May 29th, 1999, following over sixteen years of military rule.

“Together with my wife, Arch. Mrs. Yemisi Dooshima Suswam, we presided over the past eight editions of this anniversary in our capacity as the First Family of Benue State.

“Today we are thankful that under our watch, Benue State successfully made the transition to a government under the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which was in the opposition to our People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“As we mark this anniversary, may we be guided by the good grace to put above our personal interests, the best interests of our dear Benue State, may we also pray for our leaders that God Almighty will grant unto them the wisdom to govern uprightly and preserve those tenets which will encourage the growth of democracy in our society”

Suswam however assured the people of Benue state the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would bring a better time to them by the time the party returns back to power in 2019.
