Disgraced by the outcome of the last Saturday’s monetized governorship election where his preferred candidate, Hon. Agboola Ajayi of Zenith Labour Party, came distant third, a former Governorship aspirant, Mr. Banji Okunomo, has started making plans to return back to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Okunomo’s post

Okunomo made his determination to return back to the PDP known in a post he shared on his Facebook Page this morning.

Okunomo who was apparently disappointed about the loss of Ajayi at the election which everyone believes to have been monetized wrote in the Facebook post that: “I am mediating seriously on the need to return to base”

Sources within the PDP hinted Nigerian Concord Newspaper that Okunomo has started reaching out to stakeholders of the party on his planned return.

Okunomo’s planned return may not be unconnected to his 2023 Senatorial ambition which he believes cannot be realized in the ZLP.

Recall that Okunomo contested and lost woefully in the July Governorship primary election of the PDP where Barrister Eyitayo Jegede SAN came first to fly the party’s flag in last Saturday’s election.

Shortly after he lost the primary, Okunomo reportedly collected N30 million from the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to cover the expenses he incurred while he was an aspirant of the PDP.

According to reports, the Oyo state governor gave the financial compensations to all other aspirants that contested the ticket with Barrister Eyitayo Jegede in order to keep PDP united. The state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, however didn’t collect the money because he preferred to dump the PDP for ZLP.

Having collected the said N30 million, Okunomo betrayed the agreement he had with Governor Seyi Makinde, and went to join Agboola Ajayi in ZLP.
