The gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Ondo state, Barr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN, today escaped an assassination attempt while on his way to the palace of the Oloba of Oba Akoko, in Akoko South West LGA.

Jegede who was earlier scheduled to continue his campaign tour in the Northern senatorial district was at the palace of the Oloba when the governor of Ondo state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, paid an unscheduled visit to the same location.

According to reports, Governor Akeredolu who was seen trying to canvass the people at the venue became angry when his entreaties was rebuffed by the people who responded to his trademark 4+4 hand signal with boos.

This angered the governor who immediate ordered his security details and thugs to disperse the crowd that had gathered at the venue. Shots were fired at the PDP candidate’s campaign vehicles and scores of his supporters were injured as they ran for safety.

The thugs who went on rampage, fired several shots at the PDP candidate’s personal vehicle and tried to burn it down. They proceeded to attacking and harassing residents at the scene in the presence of Governor Akeredolu who was later driven away in his bullet proof Mercedes Benz bus.

Residents of the town who spoke to our reporter confirmed that it was the governor that fired the first shot before his thugs and security aides began to shoot sporadically for about twenty minutes.
