Benue first lady Calls For Collective Efforts To Curb Drug Abuse

The Benue State First Lady, and founder Eunice Spring Of Life Foundation (ESLF), Mrs. Eunice Ortom PhD, has called for concerted efforts by parents, guardians and stakeholders towards tackling the menace of drug abuse in the State.

Dr. (Mrs) Ortom made this appeal yesterday during a symposium on Substance Abuse, Product Quality Control and Standardization, organized by NYSC members in Makurdi.

Her Excellency, Mrs Eunice Ortom PhD, who was represent by the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Lady Dorcas Ukpe, noted that the family which is the first pot of call has a huge role to play at the formative stage in other to curb this menace, which has become a threat to the future of the average Nigerian child.

She called on stakeholders to join hands with the State government to provide the youths with meaningful engagements that will enhance their positive lifestyle and shun social vices.

The First Lady maintained that her husband Governor Samuel Ortom remains committed to fighting negative tendencies that affect Benue youths particularly drug abuse.

She emphasized that through her NGO, Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), the Socio-economic wellbeing of Benue youths have been improved through skills acquisition as well as the provision of start up kits while she is committed to do more.

Mrs. Ortom commended the NYSC Drug Free and Quality Control CDS group for their efforts in fighting drug abuse.

High point of the occasion was the inauguration of Drug Free Programs and presentation of Certificates to Makurdi Schools.
