The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited BIPC, Barr. Alex Ter Adum yesterday carried out an inspection visit on BIPC Guest House North Bank Makurdi to acertain the state of the facility.

Barr. Adum who was taking round the premises after a brief meeting with the management, noted that this was in line with his cardinal mandate to restructure and unbundle the company for greater value and more profitable oriented venture.

In the course of the inspection, the MD frowned at the level of infrastructural decay and damages on the facility as a result of poor handling and lack of adequate maintenance. It was also discovered that the guest house was disconnected from public power supply since January 2019 as a result of huge outstanding electricity bill to the tune of N2.7 million Naira, leaving them with no option than running the hotel strictly on a alternative power supply source.

On the same vein, It was gathered that the only borehole that was the major source of water supply in the hotel had stopped yielding since last year and they resolved in buying water for day to day running of the guest house while the roof housing the gym centre had collapsed, leaving the multi million Naira state of the art gyming equipment at the mercy of rain while the swimming pool was in a horrible state.

Conducting a check at the account department of the guest house, the MD discovered that the outfit which was supposed to be a profit making entity was running at a loss of over N350 thousand Naira Monthly as a result of over saturation of staff who have no job schedule but are on the pay roll of the guest house. “I have never seen where a 25 rooms hotel with eighteen supervisors who are permanent staff with 25 ad-hoc staff; what are they supervising?” The MD lamented.

Speaking with Journalists after the inspection, Adum decries the level of rot in the guest house and charged the management to do everything possible to step up their game by making the facility a profit making venture, reminding them that the mandate of BIPC is to make profit and declare same to the state government for infrastructural development and not to declare losses.

The MD said he had already initiated discussion with Power Holding Company to restore electricity at the guest house and the Head office to solve the problem of power generation. He also said efforts will be made immediately at putting the gyming facility as well as the swimming pool and the facility air conditioners in a better working condition while life band will be introduced at the guest house for side attraction and every Friday night will be made MD’s night where he and his friends will patronize them as guests. He gave the Management a target of Two Million Naira as net profit Monthly in the next sixty days.
