Ortom assures Makurdi residents, other major towns of cleanliness

Governor Samuel Ortom has assured residents of Makurdi and other major towns of the state of a clean environment within the next few weeks.

The Governor stated this yesterday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi while inspecting refurbished sanitation equipment presented to him by his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu.

He lamented the dirt within Makurdi metropolis and other major towns of the state, stressing that with the repair of two of the broken sanitation vehicles, more would be repaired within a short time to encourage sanitation activities.

The Governor stated that the Benue State Enviromental Sanitation Authority, BENSESA, would be empowered for effective performance while mobile courts would also be strengthened to ensure compliance with sanitation laws.

He stated that already, four dump sites have been identified around Makurdi metropolis for dumping of evacuated refuse, adding that sanitation committee would also be constituted to ensure that the general public participate in making their environments clean.

Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to his deputy for the prompt repair of the Pay Loader and Packer, saying he had already given approval that the remaining ones be fixed for optimal performance by BENSESA.

State Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu who was given the assignment to ensure the repair of the equipment said more than eighty percent of them had broken down but assured that they would be fixed.
