Ortom pays hackers N15m to lock Nigerian Concord out of whatsapp, twitter, facebook

Nigerian Concord Newspaper

Despite his inability to pay workers salaries and pension for over ten months, spendthrift governor of Benue state, Mr. Samuel Ortom, last Saturday paid N15 million public funds to some two internet hackers to fraudulently locked all the social media connected to Nigerian Concord newspapers.

The move, it was gathered came as a result of the big blows which a report of how an aide to the governor, Mr. Gbabo, has been sleeping with his wife, Eunice, dealt on him.

It was also gathered from our top informant within the governor’s ICT team that the idea to make false reports against Nigerian Concord and all the numbers and email addresses which the news agency uses to connect whatsapp, twitter and Facebook in order to get the newspaper locked out of all social media was sold to him by his special adviser on media and ICT, Mr Tahav Agerzua who is popularly called “Mr. Ten Percent” by all the journalists in the state.

According to the source who was unhappy that he was part of the plan but got shortchanged by Tahav, the governor’s special adviser on media and ICT only paid N12 million to the hackers and pocketed the remaining N3 million.

The source said he voluntarily offered to give out the information because Tahav had refused to give him his own kickback of N600, 000 from the N3 million he removed for himself out of the N15m which the governor released for the project against Nigerian Concord Newspaper.

However, all efforts by Nigerian Concord online editors to use all the major social media from Sunday morning till this evening were abortive as their administrators had blocked the media outfit from using them based on reports from the governor’s paid hackers that the newspaper’s activities were against the policies of Facebook, Twitter and whatsapp.

It took several efforts by the newspaper’s management to get its facebook page and twitter unlocked. That wasn’t made possible until after series of security checks by the agencies.

Meanwhile, the official whatsapp number of the newspaper remains locked as the agency has confirmed that it needs to carry out its investigation first before unlocking it for use.

Whatsapp authority however recommended that the newspaper should open a fresh account with a new telephone number pending the outcome of its investigation.
