Suswam pledges total supports to Tor Tiv-designate

Immediate past governor of Benue State, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Torwua Suswam PhD CON, has assured the Tor Tiv-designate, Prof. James Ortese Ayatse, of his total loyalty and cooperation as his subject.

Suswam made this pledge today when he paid a courtesy call on the Tor Tiv-designate at monarch’s residence in Makurdi, the Benue State capital city.

Speaking before the Tor Tiv-designate and a large entourage of dignitaries who accompanied him on the visit, Suswam pointed to his long standing relationship with the monarch whom he described as an accomplished academic with an international reputation.

The former governor particularly expressed optimism that the monarch’s last duty post as Vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Katsina State had armed him with valuable experience and broad-based exposure.

He implored the Tor Tiv-designate to explore his exposure and experience with the Fulani to seek lasting solutions to what he described as the intractable problem between them and farmers in the state.

Responding, the Tor Tiv-designate, Prof. James Ayatse, expressed delight at the visit by the former governor, whom he described as an illustrious son of Tiv nation, one who has contributed significantly to the development of the state.

Prof. Ayatse stressed the need for the rebuilding of bridges of reconciliation, peace and unity amongst his subjects, pledging that on his part he will remain non-political and non-partisan in the discharge of his duties.

The monarch called for genuine efforts from all Tiv sons and daughters towards the progress of the Tiv nation, even as he observed that politics ought to be a vehicle for advancing the collective interests of the nation and not a tool of division.

He equally cautioned against continued in-fighting and bad blood amongst his subjects, lamenting that such have led to much backwardness of the Tiv nation in the Nigerian scheme of things, as they have always worked hard politically but have always been by-passed in the allocation of Federal benefits and patronage.

Speaking on behalf of elders at the visit, Dr. Laha Dzever, expressed belief that the emergence of Prof. Ayatse as Tor Tiv-designate is the will of God, and prayed for wisdom, protection and long life for him from above, in the best interest of the Tiv nation.
