Sherrif/Ondo: APC Youth Vanguard seeks sanctions of Ortom, Tinubu for anti-party activities

The All Progressive Congress Youth Vanguard (APCYV) has called on the national leadership of the ruling party to urgently impose a sanction on the governor of Benue state, Chief Samuel Ortom, for openly showing his supports for a former acting national chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sherif.

The group also called for a sanction against a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over his anti-party roles during the last governorship election In Ondo state.

The group made this plea through its national facilitator, Barrister Chuks Ohakim, during an exclusive interview with Nigerian Concord’s politics correspondent in Abuja on Friday evening.

According to the APC Youth Vanguard which came to existence shortly after the party was registered by the INEC in 2013, the actions which Governor Ortom took during yesterday’s visit of Modu Sherrif to Benue state were anti-party activities.

In the interview, Barrister Ohakim added that sanctioning Ortom who extended the services of the Benue state protocol, official cars and security to Sherrif during his stay in the state would serve as deterrent to other APC leaders who are fond of anti-party activities.

Ohakim said the APC Youth Vanguard would not rest until the sanction is imposed, stressing that it was wrong for Ortom, a serving senior member of the APC, to allow himself to be fooled and used by Sherrif whom he said came to Benue state to perpetrate illegality.

His words: “We will take this matter to a logical level until Governor Ortom is sanctioned because we know it is wrong for him to allow himself to be identified with the illegality that Senator Modu Sherrif exhibited during his visit in Benue state even when a competent court had recognized the Senator Markafi-led Caretaker Committee as legitimate.

“It is very shameful for Governor Ortom to be part of Sherrif who illegally came to Benue to inaugurate an illegal State Executive Council when there is an existing and legitimate one being led by Hon. John Ngbede on ground”

The APC Youth Vanguard’s national facilitator however said that allegations that Governor Ortom was behind Sherrif’s illegality in Benue were under investigation.

He said: “There are allegations that the governor brought Sherrif to Benue with a plan to create a parallel EXCOS in order to cause confusion during the planned local government election. We are investigating it because part of the allegations says that Ortom is planning to force the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission to recognize candidates from the EXCOs which has been illegally constituted by the former PDP acting national chairman”

On Tinubu, Barrister Ohakim urged the National Working Committee of the ruling party to as a matter of urgency sanction Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for sponsoring the campaigns of Chief Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy during the last governorship election in Ondo state.

He said that Tinubu’s action was condemnable and should be treated as an anti party activity, noting that he had no moral justification to support another party against a candidate of his own political party.

He said: “Tinubu is not worthy to ba regarded as a leader of the APC any longer because the action he took during the Ondo election was bad even as he knew his importance to the campaigns of the ruling party during the electioneering”
