Facts have emerged on how a former governor of Benue state, Senator George Akume, has aided fugitive commissioner for arts and culture in the state, Mr. Sekav Iortyom, to steal some court papers that are being used to prosecute him for the murder of late William Tondo.

Reports said that the state judiciary was properly carried along in the process which led to the invasion where several top documents were carted away.

Tondo, who was a lecturer at the University of Mkar until his murder by suspected assassins who were reportedly sent after his live by Sekav was also a chairmanship aspirant for Buruku local government under the APC.

This move Nigerian Concord learnt was a desperate attempt by Akume to ensure his god son, Hon. Sekav Iortyom, is not prosecuted for the murder of the deceased.

According to our investigation, Hon. Sekav Iortyom who has been declared wanted by the police for the murder had sent hired hoodlums who disguised as armed robbers to storm the Makurdi Magistrate court 1 and steal documents and the case file brought to the court by police including the First Investigation Report, FIR, containing the charges against him.

According to the Chief Magistrate while making a report over the incident to the police and the State Chief Judge, the hoodlums whom Sekav sent to the court broke into his office and that of the clerk and then removed pending and sensitive documents

A source close to the Magistrate said he had confided in the police that the invasion was masterminded by Sekav with the support of Senator Akume to ensure he gets off the hook at all cost.

The police has already commenced investigation into the matter but it is believed to have political undertone

It was revealed that the recent invasion of Court rooms and carting away of some case files and sensitive documents was a deliberate plan by the Chief Judge of the state to protect the most wanted murderer in the governor Samuel Ortom government, Mr. Sekav Iortyom Zuai.

According to source, after the investigation of the murder of Mr. Aondosoo Tondo by the state commissioner of police, the state chief judge ordered that the case file be transferred to his office.

However, it has been discovered that the request for the case file by the Chief judge was to stall, tamper and destroy evidence just to protect Mr. Iortyom, Senator Akume’s ally, from prosecution.

According to source, in the course of the investigation, Mr. Iortyom now at large had approached the state commissioner of police, Mr. Bashir Makama, with 5 million naira to help and make the investigations outcome void.

Having sensed that the police chief was not willing to leave any stone unturned due to the manner the investigation was approached with vigour, Mr. Iortyom went for the second time to know if the money was not enough, and at that point, Mr. Makama openly told the accused that he should be allowed to do his job.

He as well didn’t return the 5 million Naira back to Iortyom with a threat to use it as exhibit against him.

It was at this point that the state chief judge was drafted into the plans, Nigerian Concord gathered.

It would be recalled that Mr. David Yimam, the Sole Administrator of Buruku local government, had been remanded in Makurdi prison by a Magistrate Court sitting in Makurdi over the same Tondo’s murder.

Yiman according to source may be left in prison to face the music, but Akume is doing everything humanly possible to shield his political god son, Hon. Sekav, from facing prosecution.

The source also said it that the idea of giving the commissioner slot to another person as being planned by Governor Samuel Iortyom is not in Akumes book at all.
