Akume Plots Ortom’s Impeachment Over Gurgur Japhet’s Sack
Benue state governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, may be finding this period very hard as a former governor of the state, Senator George Akume, has been reaching out to members of the state House of Assembly in order to perfect an impeachment process against the governor.
This move, Nigerian Concord gathered is a result of the governor’s decision not to follow Akume’s advice in allocating political appointments in the state.
It was also gathered that the former Senate Minority Leader has vowed to ensure that Ortom who everyone knows as his political stooge is impeached by the state’s lawmakers over the manner Mr. Japheth Gurgur was sacked by the governor yesterday.
Mr. Gurgur who was the Senior Special Assistant to Benue state Governor on Administration until yesterday was planted as a spy in the government by Senator Akume.
It was learnt that Governor Ortom, on assuming office had rejected some of the people that were forced on him by his god father but Akume stood his ground and ensured that the governor appointed Mr. Gurgur.
According to information, Senator Akume had been sponsoring several media attacks on the governor through his boy, Mr. Gurgur, who was always posting them on Social Media.
Source said Ortom had called the attention of Gurgur to those posts he made against him on Social Media but the erstwhile aide had reportedly called the governor’s bluff, saying that he was put in the government by Akume and not Ortom.
Gurgur had on many occasions told the governor that he was only accountable to Akume and his loyalty lies with him even though he was working under him (Ortom) as a top aide attached to the first lady’s office in Makurdi.
The governor was said to have told his loyalists that Mr. Gurgur’s contrary views and opinions about his administration is a great threat to his second term ambition.
He was said to have also mentioned it that he knew that Akume planted Gurgur in his government so as to stop him from re-election in 2019.
Immediately the news of Gurgur’s sack was broken, Nigerian Concord gathered that Senator Akume made attempts to speak and confirm the reason from Ortom but the governor refused to pick calls from the senator.
It was also gathered that Akume also made efforts to reach the governor through his close aides especially the Chief of Staff but his request met brick walls.
After several attempts, Akume was made to understand that the governor decided to sack Gurgur not because of his negative facebook posts but because of the risk that his loyalty to the senator might pose on his government.
This newspaper gathered Akume who was so sad over the development had told his political associates of his plans to use his men at the State House of Assembly to plot Ortom’s impeachment.
It was also gathered that the senator has reached out to Honourables Benjamin Adanyi and James Okefe who are the Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the House respectively. He had reportedly firmed up the plans with some of the state lawmakers.
Barring a last minute change, the lawmakers will commence an impeachments process against the governor, one of Akume’s legislative aides told Nigerian Concord via his telephone number 08034012345.
He disclosed that the mismanagement of bail out funds, illegal diversion of public funds, award of fake contracts, stealing money in the name of paying fake contractors and some others are the possible offenses that will be used for the governor’s impeachment.
The aide added that Governor Ortom would be taught some lessons for double-crossing Akume who made it possible for him to hijack the APC’s ticket to be governor despite that he was a new entrant then.
Nigerian Concord also gathered that Akume began the impeachment arrangement few weeks ago when the governor insisted that Honourable Sekav Iortyom, his commissioner for Arts and Culture, should be investigated for the murder of one William Tondo despite Akume’s advice to let him settle the case internally.
