Can you tell us that you as the governorship candidate of NNPP, will emerge as the governor of Ondo state in the November 2006, guber poll?

First and foremost, I want it to be clear that it is candidature that is critical in an election. The electorates are now better educated and they have decided to have a voice. They are now very active because they know what they want. For instance in Ondo state now, there is crisis in the left, right and center in the ruling parties and the center can no longer hold. People now need an alternative platform. They need somebody they can trust. This aspiration of mine is by popular demand. Many of our people have come to talk to me and I always tell them that the Constitution here doesn’t allow independent candidacy. They said pick a platform, adding that what they are going to sell is my name and reputation. And that is why I have offered myself for service. Those who had worked with me know that I will not steal. I will be transparent in ruling Ondo state. And like I said earlier, this is my time to be governor because the words of God have been sent out. That is why I called this project ‘God Ordained Project’.

You use to be a very good friend of Governor Mimiko so can you tell us why aren’t on the same page with his anointed candidate for the position?

The governor is my professional colleague. We were course mates, we are friends and we are still friends. It is no longer news that the PDP is no longer a viable platform to contest an election because for the first time In the history of political context in Ondo state, a party now has two candidates. That is a division that can never be reconciled. And if we truly consider the plight of our people, people like us must come out to rescue them. Like in our case in the NNPP, we were about six jostling for the ticket.  We were interviewed and later advised to pick someone among us and they picked me. That is why you can see that it is only this party that has presented a candidate that isn’t controversial. Me and the governor still remain friends despite all that happened and I believe that at the long run, he will come to agree that my aspiration is the solution to all the crisis in the ruling party.

Akure Agenda is the music everywhere now. How do you want to hijack the electorates in Akure from Mr. Eyitayo Jegede who is the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP?

Get it clear today, Dr. Oluwadare Bada is that Akure Agenda that they are talking about. It was I that took this Akure Agenda to former President Obasanjo in 2002. So I am the initiator and the trusted candidate. For example, there is no candidate from Akure before me. I am the first Akure candidate that has been duly elected for this election. I am the only Akure politician who has never failed the people that has now emerged as candidate in any party.

The state is indebted to the tune of several Billions of Naira and still owes workers salaries despite that. What solution do you have to that, and what do you think is not good in Governor Mimiko’s administration?

Firstly, I will not stand here and condemn the government of the governor who is my friend.  That is why I won’t talk about him. He has tried his best and I shall use my experience to work very hard to bring salaries of workers to utmost urgency. I don’t want to ride on cheap blackmail and people that know me know that I stand for probity. When I was in office, they knew how just I was. I will never start what I cannot finish. That is our clinical method in medicine. What you cannot finish, you don’t start.

Don’t you see your emergence with that of Jegede as a factor that can bring a conflict of interest?

Dr.. Bada

Dr.. Bada

I don’t think so because the Akure people know what is the best for them.  They know who can serve their interest. You see, I have worked for the advancement of Akure. I used my time, energy and money to bring deputy governorship to Akure in 2003. It was my agreement with the then president that made it possible. I want to add it that we will all face the electorates who already know what is good for them. I am an independent candidate. I am Dr. Bada and I am not hiding under anyone’s name.
