Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has directed the State Ministry of Health and Human Services to liaise with State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in order to ensure that proactive and preventive measures are put in place in various IDPs camps across the state.
This was made known today in a media note by the governor’s spokesperson, Terver Akase, while responding to social media criticisms on the situations of the IDPs in the face of the deadly Corona Virus.
Akase said: Benue, being one of the first states in the country to set up Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus, the State Government is aware of the need to provide equal, if not greater protection to those in camps.
“Sensitization of the IDPs has commenced. I’m aware of other efforts being made by the combined team of SEMA and the Health Ministry to see that those in the camps do not have unnecessary contact with visitors, and anyone going into the camps undergoes scrutiny”
Meanwhile, the state has also directed that all schools should be closed as from Friday,March 27, 2020 in order to protect Benue students from the corona virus.
