In Lessel, Ortom, Suswam condemn Akume’s insults on Tor Tiv

The governor of Benue state, Dr. Samuel Ortom, and his predecessor who is currently the Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Senator (Dr) Gabriel Suswam, today condemned a former governor of the state and Minister for Special Duties, Senator George Akume, over the insults he reportedly passed on the Tor Tiv,Professor James Ayatse, few days ago.
Both PDP leaders raised their voices against the minister while paying their last respects to an elder statesman, Dr. Ignatius Aker Gajir, at the deceased’s country home in Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area.
Recall that a video had few days gone viral where Akume described the Tor Tiv as “Tor Politics” apart from other insulting words against the Tiv paramount ruler.
In his speech, Governor Ortom charged traditional rulers to act against the insult hurled on the revered paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, Tor Tiv V, Professor James Ayatse, by Senator Akume.
The governor added that hurling such insulting words on the revered monarch does not speak well of the Tiv people.
Earlier, Governor Ortom in a funeral oration, described the late Aker Gajir, one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a pillar of the party, stressing that his wise counsel would greatly be missed.
The Governor who lauded the contributions of the deceased to the development of the state especially in the education sub-sector stated that his administration would collaborate with Senator Gabriel Suswam to ensure the accreditation of the College of Education owned by the late Gajir.
In his own reaction, the senator representing Benue Zone A, Senator Gabriel Suswam, also condemned Akume’s action in its entirety.
The senator advised Tiv sons and daughters against any future occurrence of such disrespectful act.
Speaking about the life of the late Gajir, Senator Suswam lauded the deceased for his unbeatable attention to education on Benue state and Nigeria as a whole.
Suswam however praised Governor Ortom for his achievements in all areas since he had returned back to the PDP, promising that he would use his position as a senator to support the governor by diverting federal attention to the state.
Also speaking, State Chairman of the PDP, Sir John Ngbede, Chairman of G14, Dr. Lana Dzever, Tor Kwande, Chief Ambrose Iyortyer among others in separate orations said the deceased would be greatly missed but prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest and his bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Son of the deceased, Hon. Cyril Gajir, while speaking on behalf of the family, acknowledged the support and prayers of the Catholic Bishop of Gboko Diocese, Most Reverend Williams Avenya, Governor Samuel Ortom, Senator Gabriel Suswam and all friends and well wishers who stood by the family through the sickness and death of their father and solicited continued prayers for their departed father to make heaven.
