Benue state governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, has said that it was just a mere rumor that he was planning to rejoin the APC.

The governor said this during an interaction with journalists, adding that he was equally surprised when he read it in the media that he had been making efforts to rejoin APC, a party which he described as the brain behind his previous challenges.

The governor traced his exit From the APC to selfish interests of the party’s leaders in the state who only cared about what they would gain rather than helping his administration on the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the masses.

He also said he left the party to rejoin the PDP, which he described as his home, when it became clear to him that the national leadership of the party would not support him in his fight against fulani herders who were killing innocent Benue people.

According to the governor, he was just like a commoner in the APC rather than being the party’s leader in Benue state as stipulated in the Constitution.

He noted that these reasons, added to the ill treatment he was receiving from a certain leader of the party in Benue made him to return back to the PDP where he was received as a ‘prodigal son’.

According to him, he got the best reception from leaders and members of the PDP both in Benue and Abuja. He said the fattest cow was killed for him on his return to the party.

Speaking on the rumoured defection back to the APC, Governor Ortom said that he cannot leave his own house where he is a landlord and go to where he will only be ridiculed and made a tenant.

According to him, he could not perform very well when he was in APC due to internal influence from the party but added that since he came back to PDP, he has been able to achieve everything he could not achieve while in APC.

He noted that his records and performances as governor since he rejoined the PDP is enough indication that he is not ready to leave the party for APC where he will continue to fail.

Ortom also added that being the leader of the PDP in Benue state is also a proof that he is not ready to return to APC where he can never been regarded as a leader.

His words: “I was not regarded as a leader while i was in APC despite that the law says a governor automatically becomes the leader of his party at the state level, but in the PDP, everyone regards me as the leader of the party in Benue state. So why will i be thinking of leaving such comfort?

“All my achievements as governor in PDP are far more than the little i could achieve in APC for more than three years so why will i think of leaving a party where i have been successful as governor for a place where they made me fail?

“They can say all what they want to say for propaganda sake but i am assuring my people that i don’t and won’t think of leaving the PDP”
