On Ortom’s meeting with Buhari: Does it mean that the Benue APC media handlers truly have no sense and good education?

I have been reading different media reports from the Benue APC media handlers under the leadership of the party’s publicity secretary, James Ornguga, where they have been misleading the public that the state governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, told the president during their meeting yesterday that the fulani killings in the state were masterminded by Terwase Akwaza aka Gana.

I have a copy of the media note which was released to the public by the governor’s CPS, Terver Akase, shortly after the meeting so as not to put people in darkness, and in the media note, there was no single place where Akase mentioned that the governor said Terwase Akwaza Gana was behind the fulani killings in the state so to me and every reasonable person like me, those misleading media reports from the APC media handlers are to achieve three things:

1. They wanted to portray the governor as a confused man for attributing the fulani killings to Gana after he had said it many times that Fulani herders were the ones killing innocent Benue people. The governor actually accused the Fulani herders for the killings because the Miyetti Allah Association had said it many times that they were the ones killing in Benue state, and also that they would continue to kill if the governor didn’t cancel the Anti Open Grazing Laws at that time.

2. They wanted to exonerate the Fulani herders from the killings of innocent Benue people which they (herders) had always claimed responsibilities for since the inception of Ortom’s administration.

3. They wanted to quote Terver Akase out of contest . They want to mount heat on the CPS by misleading the public that his media note contained the portion where the governor was quoted to have told the president at the meeting that Gana was behind the fulani killings.

Below is Akase’s media note for those that want to read, and they will find out that he never said that his boss told the president what the lazy APC media handlers are now celebrating on the social media:

– Says Ranching Law Is Working

By Terver Akase

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after which he stated that the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state has recorded tremendous success.

The Governor said implementation of the law has curtailed open grazing and restored relative peace to most parts of the states which came under attacks by herdsmen militia last year.

Speaking to State House Correspondents, Governor Ortom disclosed that about 400 suspects have been arrested for violating the law out of which 50 have been convicted.

The Governor said ”the law is being implemented and we have arrested 400 people irrespective of their ethnic background, whether Tiv, Fulani, Igbos, Yoruba, Idoma and we have convicted 50 people for contravening various sections of the law and we have seized more than 2,000 cattle. But we have ensured that no one has molested nor killed any cattle.

Governor Ortom stressed that the law is still in force in the state and cattle owners irrespective of ethnicity have been advised to establish ranches.

“Anyone who wants to do cattle business can come to Benue and ranch; for that, we have land, but for open grazing, we have no land”, he emphasized.
