Nigerian Concord can authoritatively report a serious crack in the Benue state chapter of the APC over the defection of a top member of the party, Ambassador Dickson Akor, to SDP where he has emerged as the running mate to Dr. Stephen Hwande.

Insiders who spoke with our reporters in Makurdi this morning said that the departure of Akor, the National Commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps, has thrown the party into a serious crisis.

Sources said Akor left with several members of the APC who are his own supporters as a result of the party’s refusal to nominate him as running mate to Emmanuel Jime, its governorship candidate.

It was also gathered that top members of the party are angry with APC’s decision, and have threatened to work for the emergence of both Hwande and Akor in 2019.

According to sources, the combination of Hwande and Akor has boosted the chance of the SDP in preparation for the 2019 governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued to confirm Akor’s nomination, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Benue State chapter said it is pleased to announce the emergence of the Peace Corps Commandant as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the party from Benue.

The statement reads: “Ambassador Akor who triumphantly joined the party of the moment, SDP, with not less than Ten thousand defectors across the geopolitical zones of Benue is the commandant of the Nigerian Peace Corps.

“The party sincerely congratulates him and is looking forward to reap success in the 2019 governorship election”
