Former Lagos state police commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has blasted the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, over what he called an illegal ceiling of the Makurdi corporate headquarters of the BIRS after terminating the appointment of the chairman of the agency, Mrs Mimi Orubibi, this morning.

Reacting in a media note which he sent to Nigerian Concord via whatsapp this evening, Tsav described Governor Samuel Ortom as a confused man who is getting involved in one blunder or the other as a result of the political crises he presently faces.

He pressed further that it was wrong for the governor to sack Orubibi despite that she had a mandatory tenure to serve till October, 2019, and still refused her entry into her office where she needs to do a proper hand over.

Tsav said: “Imagine he relieved Mrs Mimi Azape-Urubibi of her duties as Chairman BIRS but refused her entry into her office by the use of life Stock guards to handover her duties. How can she now handover?

“The office of Chairman BIRS is very sensitive with vital documents.
Perhaps Gov Ortom does not know that if anything goes wrong with the Documents or office of BIRS, he will be directly held responsible.

“This man Ortom appears confused and has no good advisers. He is not working like a Governor but like a LG Chairman deputising for a Governor. Ortom is down and out”

It would be recalled that the outgoing chairman of BIRS, Mrs Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, this afternoon alleged that her life is being threatened as a result of the presence of the member of the Benue State Livestock Guards that the governor of the state, Samuel Ortom, had placed at the gates of the agency to harass its staff after she
Was relieved of her appointment.

It would be recalled that these same members of the Benue State Livestock Guards have been alleged to be behind all the killings in the state. The leader of the group, Aliyu Tershaku, was arrested about two months ago for killing two catholic priests and some other worshippers.

In a statement signed by Terna Francis, her media assistant, Chief Orubibi said the presence of the local vigilante men who are fully armed with guns, cutlasses and Charms had made it impossible for her to properly hand over to the most senior officer at the agency.

The statement reads: “This morning, upon hearing the news that Chief (Mrs) Mimi Adzape-Orubibi has been relieved of her appointment as Executive Chairman, BIRS, some armed men suspected to be members of the Benue State Vigilante and Livestock Guards besieged the premises of the Headquarters, Benue State Internal Revenue Service, Makurdi.

“The men who claim to be acting on the instructions of the Benue State government have made the atmosphere at the board very tensed and unsafe, given their modus operandi.

“In view of the above, it has become impossible for Mrs. Orubibi to gain access into the corporate headquarters in line with the Governor’s directive to hand over.

“Let it also be on record that if anything happens to Chief Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, the Benue State Government will be held responsible. One will wonder why it is only the premises of BIRS and Urban Development that have been taken over by these men even as other appointees who were recently relieved of their duties had a smooth handover in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

“Meanwhile, the outgoing Executive Chairman appreciates the State Government for the opportunity to serve and the good people of the state for cooperating with her and making her work easy.
