The crisis between the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, and his estranged God father and senator representing Zone B, Senator George Akume, has taken a new dimension as the governor this morning gave N100 million to five APC lawmakers of the State House of Assembly to impeach the House Speaker, Terkimbir Ikyange, and other principals officers who are believed to be loyal to the Akume camp.

This is coming after the governor who has always claimed that there is no money to pay workers salaries which he is owing for over a year had given a whooping N1 billion to the SDP national body in Abuja two days after the APC national convention where he wasn’t recognized as a card delegate.

Confirmed government house sources who broke the news to Nigerian Concord this evening gave the names of the five lawmakers who were given the N100 million meant for the impeachment project as Honourable Avine (Makurdi North), Honourable Cheme (Gwer West), Honourable Gbande (Kwande), Honourable Tyochir (Gwer) and Honourable Uba (Vandeikya)

While handing over the N100 million to the five APC lawmakers, Governor Ortom made it known that Speaker Ikyange and other principal officers of the House of Assembly must be impeached tomorrow, Tuesday.

The governor, according to our reliable source, said that he could not continue to keep Akume’s loyalists at the House of Assembly as principal officers.

One of the governor’s trusted aides who also briefed this newspaper about the development when contacted on phone, said that the action was timely, adding that he (Ortom) had been reliably informed of a thick plot by Senator Akume to urgently use the Speaker and other loyalists to impeach the governor for financial recklessness.

It was however gathered that the impeachment project will be executed tomorrow, Tuesday

Meanwhile, Governor Ortom this afternoon met with his core loyalists at the government house in Makurdi where they all finalized plans to defect to the PDP next week.

At the meeting, Ortom told his associates that he had made a huge arrangement with the PDP national body, and as well assured them that they would all be given a soft landing once they defect.

Investigations revealed that Ortom is presently eyeing the Zone B senatorial ticket of the PDP since it has become clear to him that there is no way he can be given a governorship ticket.

This newspaper has also gathered that Senator Barnabas Gemade has been lobbying the national leaders of the PDP in Abuja for the Zone A senatorial ticket.

A confirmed source who spoke about this made it known that Gemade’s chance of getting the ticket lies in the hands of a former governor of the state, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, whom is also believed to be eyeing the same ticket.
