Nigeria must solve economic problems with ICT – Shittu

By Austine Omoregbe

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has stated that Nigeria must participate in the deployment of Information and Communication Technology to tackle contemporary economic challenges and other problems of life.

He said this at the Digital Government Conference organised recently in Abuja by Microsoft.

A statement by the ministry stated that the conference was conceptualised to empower governments to digitally share latest innovative technology trends and government solutions through Microsoft platforms to improve their capabilities at all levels.

The minister said the increasing pressure to deliver more and better services to a growing urban population in the midst of macroeconomic challenges and other environmental issues had made it imperative upon governments globally to optimise benefits of the ICT.

In Nigeria, Shittu declared that the government citizenship engagements and service delivery had been fundamentally altered in a positive sense through the ICT-driven applications such as the Treasury Single Account, Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information, Bank Verification Number, and Budget Portal, among others.
